Hi! I’m Tim Johnson.
No matter what label we put on my work—marketing, communications, public relations, advertising, fundraising, sales, or something else —the term I use to encompass it all is that I am a “promotional communicator.”
I do this with three, often concurrent, goals:
Increase Awareness - Before they act, and before they decide how they feel about you, they must know you exist!
Influence Attitudes - “People like us do things like this.” That phrase from Seth Godin stands out to me as the key to brand loyalty. It’s why charity walks succeed in generating new donors and continuing loyalty from others. By sharing who we are with the right people, we can get them to like us.
Inspire Action - Familiarity and liking create trust. Once we have that, we can ask them to act. That can mean many things. Consuming content, signing up for a newsletter or rewards program, visiting a website, or making a purchase or donation are among many actions we may inspire people to take.
